Plant-Based Eating

Plant-based eating is a consciousness practice..
an orientation toward what we take in

Plant-Based Eating is not the same as vegetarianism, on which we might eat a lot of cheese, milk and ice cream.  Nor is it vegan, for which we might not wear leather or eat honey.  Plant-based eating has nothing to do with theory or beliefs.

It is a mindfulness/heartfulness practice of choosing foods that were meant for human consumption.

Foods that grow from the ground.  Next time you feel hungry, ask yourself if it’s actual physical hunger. If so, see what happens if you eat actual food; real, whole plants.

If it is not body hunger, then ask, “what am I hungry for?” A smile?  A walk?  Eye contact with a pal?  Nature?

Plant-based eating is a gentle practice of asking again and again, ever so kindly, “What’s real here?

Plants. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, the whole bean.  Olives rather than olive oil.  Brown rice rather than rice cakes, vegan or not. Carrots rather than carrot cake, vegetarian or not.

Plant-based eating is not all-or-nothing. It is more an orientation toward what we take in.

  • Is it real?
  • Does it nourish?

Thus, plant-based eating expands how we think about everything we take in: TV. Is it real?  Does it nourish?  Testy arguments?  Do they nourish/nurture us?  In that way, plant-based eating is a consciousness practice, an awareness practice like mindfulness or heartfulness.
